Hi,

I am working on robotics, with little knowledge on physics. I tend to use mostly thumb rules and trial and error methods to solve problems. Now I have at hand a project to build balancing robot, with servos and PIC controller. I have planned to start the project after I dig to level where I find myself confident of starting it.
I need help from people expert in robotics, please.

Now I have ADXL 3 axis accelerometer. I read online article from a magazine maybe Servo or something like that, which had a project that used only accelerometer to balance robot. My task goes beyond balancing, it should move, turn and maneuver itself. So I can't use that project.

I also referred to several other project that said that a combination of gyro and accelerometer is must for stability.

So my questions are
Can it be done only using accelerometer?
Is there any site where I can learn some basics regarding balancing robots?
What is this kalman filter anyway?

Thanks in advance.

balancing robot project

Hi,
better not discussing about accelerometer and all other components..
Few years back there was an amazing article about balancing robot in Nuts and Volts magazine i remember October 2006 and December 2006 Issues.
I do not have any copy of magazine please search your self or buy those archives or else browse online nutsandvolts web site for overview of project.
it might help you alot.
What is this kalman filter anyway?
are you not aware of Google.com ?.. :D
