pads allegro import error

Dear all,

I've trying to import an image (in DXF and PLT format) to Allegro 16.0, but nothing appear. First I convert a bmp format image into DXF format using Img2CAD software but nothing appear. Then I try "Raster to Allegro" to convert bmp file to PLT file and still nothing appear when I import the file in Allegro.

Does anybody having the same experiences and willing to share the solution?

best regards,
damian_s

import logo into allegro

Are you able to open DXF file with any DXF reader such as Autocad or other tools?
Do the layer that you mapping DXF is on?
Also try to open plt file with any text editor and see which layer is mapped to?

Never had problem with this but I am still on 15.7.

Regards,
M

how to import image to allegro?

Please find the procedure to import .BMP/JPEG/.JPE/.JFIF/.GIF/.TIF/.TIFF/.PNG/.DIB file to Allegro or PADS layout:

Uses:
1.When the customer provided the logo or drawing in bitmap(or Above any format) format.Without creating manually ,can be imported directly to the layout.
2.When the customer not given logo and asked us to down load it from the web. Down load the logo and convert it into any above mentioned format and import the same into the layout.

Procedure to import the .BMP/.JPEG//.JPE/.JFIF/.GIF/.TIF/.TIFF/.PNG/.DIB format file to PADS layout:
1.Save the above file in monochrome .bmp format.
2.Copy the attached script file BMP2ASC and .bmp file in the same directory.
3.Run the command BMP2ASC bitmap.bmp ascii.asc 2 26 0 0 at DOS command prompt.
Where BMP2ASC is the script file name.
bitmap.bmp is the bit map file name
ascii.asc is the converted output in .asc format.
This command will scan the data and convert it to horizontal lines 2 mils wide. These lines will be placed on layer 26 (silk-screen top), and the lower left-hand corner of the image will be at 0,0.(w.r.t.,PADS Layout).
4. Open up a new PADs file, and import the ASC file. Be sure to set the color and the minimum display

Procedure to import the .BMP/.JPEG//.JPE/.JFIF/.GIF/.TIF/.TIFF/.PNG/.DIB format file to ALLEGRO layout:
1.Save the above file in monochrome .bmp format.
2.Copy the attached script file BMP2ASC and .bmp file in the same directory.
3.Run the command BMP2ASC bitmap.bmp ascii.asc 2 26 0 0 at DOS command prompt.
Where BMP2ASC is the script file name.
bitmap.bmp is the bit map file name
ascii.asc is the converted output in .asc format.
4.Import the .asc file to allegro board file. OR
5.Import it to PADS layout.Export DXF of the same.
6. Open up a Allegro file, and import the DXF file.

Note : While importing DXF file directly pls check if the units are set properly as per DXF unit.

Hi coolman,

can you please guide me how to import the .bmp file in allegro ...

Thanks and Regards

I am also getting the same error message:
Unable to open input file <bitmap.bmp>

I have been trying for days to get our PCB designer to incorporate a logo in the silkscreen of a PCB and they keep complaining that all the files we give them (BMP, DXF, etc. don't work). It's so frustrating. You'd think printing a logo from a standard bit-map file would be a regular feature of a PCB software product.

hello can u plz send me the step by step procedure, how to import company logos or images to allegro

if u have that ,Please share that.

Actually I haven't used the program yet, I was having the same problem as you but with PADS. But I read this should work for both. But can't really promise anything. Still waiting for them to confirm my download.
