Short circuit endurance of relays

Hello everyone,
I'm wondering the short circuit endurance of usual relays.
I'm using a shrack branded relay and its contacts get damaged whenever a short circuit occurs. At main, there is a b type fuse.Fuse opens rapidly but after opening i inspect the relay's contacts stick to each other.
Is there any other relay type to endure the short circuits better? Why cant a cool relay like Shrack endure such a normal line to neutral short circuit?
Any ideas?

Note: Relay can operate up to 16A, 250VAC and 10A, 12VDC.
 

It would be possible by correctly fuzing a circuit and correct selection of relay current contacts to prevent your sticking relay.
Go for a gold or platinum contact.
 

You need to pay close attention to the relay specs to get long life. There will be a whole list of specs related to the contacts such as peak current, voltage, whether it requires wet or dry switching, etc...
There are many different ways to build the contacts for different applications - just be sure that you are using the right relay and it shouldn't be an issue.
