Will the RF shielding be grounded or open, when the WLAN + Bluetooth chip (W2CBW003) is enclosed by the RF shielding? This chip has WLAN & BT RF ports which are connected to 2.4GHz antennas through coaxial connectors.

Thanks in advance.

Re: RF Shielding

Any shield should be connected to a ground, but what can matter in some cases is where is located the ground point.

Re: RF Shielding

If the shielding forms a complete box, as in metal on all 6 walls, then it can just have a circuit floating inside of it.

If there are any cuts in the wall, especially for things like antennas/dc power lines/digital controls, then it is most effective to make sure the shield metal connects to the "ground plane" of the printed wiring board that the RF chip(s) are mounted to.

Re: RF Shielding

Shield Can should be grounded to provide good signal return path!
