Hello!
I would like to know which substrate material is suitable to use for a micro strip antenna operating in the range 5-10ghz, in order to get the best results when comparing the measurements and the simulation?
Thank you!

Low Dielectric constant materials are preferred for microstrip antennas.
Most popular materials are FR4, RT Duroide and PTFE.

Lot of work has been done on different substrates .Substrates use in microstrip patch antenna varies from 2.2≤Ɛ≤12.
Lower the permittivity of dielectric material larger the size of the antenna but it achieves better efficiency and larger bandwidth. The Ɛr is limited by radio frequency or microwave circuit connected to antennas. When substrate of higher dielectric constants were used than the performance result degrades.

Hi,
In fact, You have to take into account the loss of your dielectric (tan(delta)) and the relative permittivity. The higher the permittivity the smaller the antenna. The lower the tan(delta) the higher efficiency of your antenna. The thickness of the substrate is of great importance too. The thickness plays a role in the bandpass of your patch antenna.

Regards.
