    Amplifier Matching & Gain Circles

English is not my mother tongue, probably I've been a bit unclear. The graphic shows gamma_opt (marker 15) and the maximum gain match (the red circle, e.g. marker 13 and 14). What confuses me is the red circle in the graphic I've posted. According to my simulations all input impedances on its...

    Amplifier Matching & Gain Circles

Hi, I currently have some problems with matching the MGA71543 LNA ( ). To match a low noise amplifier, I usually plot the optimum noise match point and maximum gain (=s11* conjugate complex) match point, and then chose a matching network somewhere between both points to have a good noise match...

Agilent ADS problem: mu() factor for stability

Ouch, copy & paste...I added the old picture - here's one showing all diagrams: You can also see the differences here - the calculated results using the formula are definitely wrong. Mu_formula goes below 1 again above 5 GHz, but MuPrime_formula doesn't - this can't happen in reality...

    LT317 voltage ref problem

Did you measure the voltage between Vout and ADJ? It should be 1.25V. The voltage ADJ to GND should be near 0V. What is your resistor value for R1? R2/R1 needs to be near 0 to get 1.25V output, so you should set R1 >> R2 (or ground ADJ directly). I guess there's no problem with the resistors...

Agilent ADS problem: mu() factor for stability

Completely forgot this topic, sorry... Thanks, this is also how I've done it then. Stupid me, when I first asked I didn't know it was possible to display separately simulated results in a common data display window  Anyway, I still wonder why the ADS Mu() and MuPrime() functions yield...

Agilent ADS problem: mu() factor for stability

Maybe my explanation was a bit confusing, hopefully another picture will make my problem more clear. Within one schematics-file I have two circuits. And I'd like to compare the µ-stability-factor for both of them: Though when I start simulating, I get the following error message (ADS seems...

Agilent ADS problem: mu() factor for stability

Hi, I have a schematics file with two different amplifier circuits. Circuit A uses Port 1 and Port 2, circuit B uses Port 3 and Port 4. I'd like to simulate stability for both of them simultaneously, to be able to compare them both. To simulate stability when there is only one circuit which...

Microstrip line - where to place the amplifier

Hi, I've got the ouptut of a PLL (~1 GHz, 0dBm) and the input of a tranceiver chip, connected by about 7cm microstrip line. However, I need to amplify the PLL's output by about 12dB, what I'm going to realize with a MMIC amplifier. What's the best point to place the amplifier: a) right behind...

    Passive UHF RFID Reader Design

uhf reader design Well, there are some interesting reader IC's available, e.g. look out for Impinj Indy R1000 or at IDS Microchip. Using such a chip in connection with a simple microcontroller, antenna(s) and some other usual stuff will probably be the easiest way to build up an UHF reader. The...

A few PLL / VCO Questions

pll open loop bandwidth Thanks again for your explanations, especially the part about stability. Now as I have the basics I'll "just" have to build up the whole thing and get it to work :)

A few PLL / VCO Questions

vco loop bw plot Thanks to all three of you, that really helped me alot. So the loop bandwidth has nothing to do with a 3-dB-bandwidth - I think that's where my confusion came from. I think I'm getting the principle now: a) I've got the transfer function F(s) of my filter b) Kvco and Kd are...

A few PLL / VCO Questions

m/a-com vco Influence yes, but what I've read so far KD and Kvco both act as a lowpass, so they can only decrease the overall bandwidth of the loop - and not increase it. In other words: The overall loop bandwidth is always smaller than the filter bandwidth: BW_loop > BW_filter If I now want a...

A few PLL / VCO Questions

vco kvco loop filter size The problem why I'm asking this, is, that I've problems in understanding how to dimension the loop filter of a charge pump pll. In the ADF4111 datasheet ( -> https://www.analog.com/static/imported-files/data_sheets/ADF4110_4111_4112_4113.pdf) some examples are given...

A few PLL / VCO Questions

kd pll gain Hi, I've got a few questions regarding PLL's and VCO's. In my project I'm going to use a synthesizer like the ADF4111 from Analog Devices. Output frequency about 900MHz (ZComm or Minicircuits VCO), crystal oscillator 10 MHz (if that's of interest). 1. Which frequency are the...
