I havent heard of a DIY USB smart cable before.

Im not even sure if you can find the schematic of the original.. I tried before but failed.

i have used this z8f chip a few years back but i was using a DIY serial smart cable, not USB.

Since zilog's later versions of the ez8 supports only usb cable and not the serial, and i cant find the the schematic, I simply switched to using PIC

it is a zilog encore tutorial, but seems to be using a built-in serial smart cable

Thank You for your reply.
I've just find and see the Zilog Encore DIY 40-pin Board and it use a simple RS232 serial interface with DBG pin of microcontroller. I need to program Z16FMC series. Can i programm with serial smart cable?
Thanks

Your in luck.. looks like the Z16FMC Series supports 1-pin serial debug interface, so yes you can (probably) program it with serial smart cable..

I said 'probably' because you still have to check zilog's ZDS software if it is really supported.
