WTA can i charge Sealed Rechargeable Battery with DC adapter?

Hi everyone, i have a 12V sealed lead acid battery, i wondering if i can charge it with a DC 12V adapter. my friend told me that cannot because adapter and charger is different. is it true?

the rating of my battery is
12V 2.3AH
Boost voltage: 14.5-15.0V
Float voltage: 13.5-13.8V
max charging current: 0.69A

my DC adapter is DC 12V 500mA.

Well, it's obvious that if the adapter output is a regulated 12Vdc then its voltage is too low to meet either the float voltage or boost voltage requirements for charging the battery.
 
ok, so is that means if the adapter output voltage can raise up to the float voltage or boost voltage then i able to charge the battery with my adapter?
 

A charger circuit is used to charge a battery.
If the battery is dead and you use the 12V/500mA adapter to charge it then you have nothing to limit the charging current so the adapter will be severely overloaded and might catch on fire.
 
There are esentially two requirements:
- The adapter must support output voltage adjustment to float voltage (e.g. 13.8 V). Boost voltage is a dynamic (time dependant) feature and doesn't work with a standard power supply.

- The adapter must support continuous current limiting when the output voltage is below the setpoint.

Some off-line switchmode adapters meet both requirements. Due to missing boost mode, the battery won't get probably 100 % charged, but may be 90 %.

i see... so how can i limit the current?
 

You can look in Google Images for Lead-acid Battery Charger Circuit and see hundreds of them.
