Hi all,

I was just wondering how the HDL specifications are written for the whole system design. Is it just we write it down on the word document or is their some other professional way that experienced VHDL designers use.
It is because now I have thoroughly learned that writing a good system spec before starting any project is the most essential thing before we can start.

hence I would like to know the best approach in this regard that may help to reduce system development time as well

Thanks
Shan

and what does good specs include beside the ports and interfaces, module purpose in general etc.

The spec should cover all of the relabent info so a competant engineer with 0 knowledge of your design can understand it. So portspecs, purpose, operational description all along with plenty of diagrams (not gate level)
