Writing a Test Case for which i havent developed

Hello friends


I am in a tricky situation. I have been given an assignment to write test cases for a unit which logs the data and sends the packets of data to the server. It has 14 I/O , CAN connectivity to other components on the unit with different speeds, GPS and GSM connections.


Am stuck over here.. Where to start and how?

Till now i started testing using black box testing where i just started doing a pre-test like changing of voltages, giving variable inputs and checking for expected outputs..


Help appreciated.

at what level do you want to write test case, Unit level, Integration or negative test cases?

Integration test would be better , as i want to test for it function and then the reliability of the unit. Please help me how and where to start?
