dear friends
do you think that it worth to continue education after graduation and why is there any satuations that needs higher education please advice

Re: graduated studies

BS ---> a job.
MS----> better job + more $+ more flexibility.
Phd ----> more freedom. more fame. But not probably not more $.

Heres what a berkeley professor said :

Why should you go to Grad School?
==============================
=>Money Reasons?
Go do some calculations, figure out how much money you'll make going straight out of BS instead of
going to Grad School.
Factor in expenses of Grad School.
Grad School should be basically free for you to attend. Living expenses should save you money even. Grad
Student life is quite enjoyable, can go eat whenever you feel like it. Go ski, travel around. Financially can
save money, which isn't usually appreciated. Can get by decent enough if you're not supporting anybody,
very tough if you have a family to support.
Coming out with a Masters degree you will see a substantial jump in salary. No brainer investment in time
is a Masters degree, can get one in a couple of years and your salary goes up.
PhD is usually four to five years beyond Masters. That's a decent amount of time. Your friends that are in
industry will be moving up in career ladder, their salaries will be increasing.
Simple model based on salaries for going to grad school you'll find that it's hard to justify a PhD based on
money alone. Usually your friends at the same level that didn’t go for a PhD will be making the same
amount of money when you come out with your PhD.
If the decision is on money alone, a Masters is a clear investment to make.
Nobody should just stop at a BS, career wise it is not a good idea. Should go back and get something
else, such as an MBA.

Re: graduated studies

Definetly it worthes ..
More knowledge .. more confidence ..
More education .. more credibility .. very few engineers without PhD's have managed to be CEOs .. you always see Companies' founder and CEO holding PhD's ..
Ministers .. have PhD's ..
CEO's .. Have PhD's
Big Names .. have PhD's ..
..

This is about credibilities and confidence ..

About experience .. it depends on the university .. supervisor .. and topic .. so, if you managed to chose all the 3 of them carefully, it counts like business experience .. people in the MIT have technical experience much better than many companies ..

Moreoever .. some experience gained from business , is really ad-hoc .. not based on scientific theories and principles .. and you may not reuse this experience on vast span of projects .. so, scientific background from academia helps to build a good robust infra-structure for your business experience ..

Re: graduated studies

If you want to have a good position, freedom, and salary do your grad studies at least at the masters level or even better get your PhD. Have you ever seen a PhD engineer drive a cab? PhD also makes you employable practically anywhere in the world.

I differ a a little about the MIT issue. While MIT produces some of the best research in the world, it is most likely because they have the best facilities and get the best students in the world. You might get a Permanent Head Damage for a PhD due to the over competitive nature of the environment. :)

Here is my advice:
- Good supervisor (they are hard to find).
- Try to do your research in collaboration with industry (spend a couple of terms in a company). You may not learn science there but you will surely learn know-hows.
- Choose a good topic that you like and have an affinity to.

graduated studies

One of my Professor said to me that, a B.S. candidate with 2 years experience would make more money than a candidate with a master's at entry level.
Is he full of bull...or is he somewhat correct?
Also, how big of a factor is GPA in getting accepted into a graduate program??

thanks!

graduated studies

My guess is that BS with 2 years of experience will make about the same amount as MS entry.

GPA is very important for graduate school admissions.
Good letters of recommendations definitely helps.
GRE scores don't matter as much.

Re: graduated studies

It is of no doubt that education after graduation is very necessary. Because you can have good designations if u are in teaching and u can have a better exposure to research.

Re: graduated studies

getting a job after BE is best option to go and if you r free go for mtech

graduated studies

....puzzled. I'm a MS candidate.Whether to get Phd, it's really a problem. Each person has its own opinion..
