This might be a very basic question, but I wonder why people call a 50 ohm microstrip, is it because when we use the ohm meter to measure the strip, we come up with a value of 50 ohm resistance?
If the microstip line has a characteristic impedance(Zo) of 50 ohm, then we call it as a 50 ohm transmission line. If it has Zo of 100 ohm, then it is 100 ohm transmission line.
One important thing: YOU CANNOT MEASURE THE CHARACTERISTIC IMPEDANCE USING A OHM METER. There are different methods to follow,if you want to measure the characteristic impedance.
yes, u characterize a trace by its characteristic impedance. yes Ohm meter is not used to measure the characteristic impedance..if u check using ohm meter its just a short.........
