Why Cyclic Prefix? Zero padding give me same result!

I cannot understand why we need cyclic prefix in DMT instead of just zero padding. Some basic tests with MATLAB show me same results no matter cyclic prefix or zero padding is used.
Is it there any easy way of understanding why CP is it a mandatory requirement?
