which sensor do i use..????

hi i am trying to make a small car using PIC16F877
the car should be able to detect any incoming object so can any one plzz tell
which type of sensors would be suitable...:?:

IR is one option, Ultrasonic other and so on.

Standard is IR and Ultrasonic, try low res CCD so it can detect vector movement, recognize what type of object passing through, and many awesome other things.

Try radar like sensor too...

RADARs and LIDARs are good too, but they tend to be large and expensive.

u can make one by using detector(black color) and emitter of different ranges and a variable resistor

CAPACITVE or ULTRASONIC

try using a capacitive proximity sensor...Ultra sonic is good idea...module easily available in Saddar...U just have to make an amplifier ckt to drive read it....
