"Verilog HDL" by sameer palnitkar is very good book for beginners.
Which will give good information about digital disign and synthesis.

there are so many books in this forum but i think
SAMIR PALNITKAR<S BOOK IS better to start.
for VHDL u can refer J.BHASKAR or PERRY,S book.

Verilog HDL - samir palnitkar
Verilog... - Bhaskar is very simple to understand (i dont remember the exact name of the book)
