books for digital signal processing by n.g.palan
I suggest that you stay away from textbooks in the beginning mostly because they might bore you with all of the theory upfront and you don't want to get discouraged by picking up the wrong book.
I suggest that you start with some tutorials that you can find online.
Take a look at the following tutorials
**broken link removed**
There are some excellent tutorials on the basics, time domain processing, frequency analysis, filtering, DSP processors, etc.
http://www.prosig.com/signal-processing/
The tutorials are about a third of the page down.
http://www.dsptutor.freeuk.com/
This has some basic information, tutorials on digital filters
and some Java applets related to DSP.
If you must look at a textbook for more information, I suggest that you start with this online textbook "The Scientist and Engineer's Guide to Digital Signal Processing" by Steven W. Smith, Ph.D. You can browse and/or download the entire book in PDF format here

I hope that these resources will help you out.
