What type of circuit is this?

It should be polarized capacitor with the shaded portion likely to be the negative terminal.
 

It looks like a polarized capacitor but you may check the figure in wikipedia to make sure ,the shaded terminal is probably negative because most capacitor with shaded part is negatively charge.
 

In simple words it could be 100 uF electrolytic capacitor with polarity as indicated in earlier posts.
