What is the protocol used for USB I/O ?

I am interesting in USB I/O but I need to know what is the most protocol they are using.

Also I am interesting USB-6008 from NI. However I don't know the protocol of USB-6008.

I have seen many USB I/O in internet which I don't know the protocol of them.

If some one know the protocol which the most USB I/O are using, please tell me know.
