I think the problem here is how to match the polarization between transmitter and receiver in order to "gather" power from the transmitter at the recever-end.
I have no idea about the differences between different polarizations of EM waves.
We use different to send info. on same carrier frequency. Usually used in satellite comminucation. Receiver should diff. between a vert. and a horiz. plolarization.
There is no such thing as one better than the other.
The effect of ground is affected by antenna polarization.
For horizontally polarized antennas, the effect of ground is usually negligible for heights greater than about 0.2 wavelengths, but for vertical polarized antenna things are more complicated because most of verticals need a ground screen.
