Hi,
Libraries in .db format and .lib format. What is difference of those formats.Where those different formats are useful. Please explain anybody elaborately.

.db is just a compressed .lib file used by synopsys tools.

.lib format is called liberty format. This format is a open standard by IEEE. Whereas .db format is the propitiatory format of Synopsys.

Hi designer_ec,

Major difference above all is db is in binary format you can not read it but the tool can understand it, whereas lib is a readble format.
Thus in a flow you code a lib model for a block and then use Synopsys library compiler to covert it to db so that all the tool can work on that effciently

:D

Hi,
Thanks for all, I can clarify my doubt .but if we want check library contents how we can check in .db format.

Read it into the Synopsys tools and look at the reports.

hi,

if u wants know the contents that present in the .db file u need to use the design compiler comads like report_lib. will give the library report in simplified way .

regards,
