difference between nmos and pmos

what is the difference between NMOS and PMOS inverters in terms of the transfer function

differences between pmos and nmos

a nmos inverter consists of a nmos transistor with a resistor attached to Vdd (by drain).
a pmos inverter has an pmos transistor and a resistor to ground.

the common used inverter is the cmos inverter with both the nmos and the pmos transistor.
