No .. RTL compiler and NC are 2 different tools .. RTL Compiler is for synthesis and NC is just for simulation .. RTL compiler doesn't come by default with NC ..

Anyhow .. ModelSim, NC, and VCS are the most famous non-free HDL simulators.

If you are interested in simulation times, I believe that ncverilog runs the fastest.

Model Sim is d best tool for both HDL (VHDL , Verilog) and this tool is used in most of the companies...but with the command line version...
