What is the advantage of JTAG programmer?

I am using PIC32 microcontrollers. Before PIC32 only two programmers are available pickit & ICD. now microchip introduce JTAG for 32 bit controllers...
What are the advantages of JTAG type programmers over pickit & ICD?
