What is DSL and its advantage?

what is DSL?whats in the DSL?...can you explain why it is more preferable than others?

DSL is digital subscriber line. on normal copper pair, it can give 2MB/S easily. on both ends of the line, DSL modems are connected.
have many flavours like, ADSL, HDSL etc.
