What is a SAB layer and what is it used for?

It seems some resistors' layout cover such layer.
 

sab salicide

sab is salicide block
this layer will improve poly's resistance
 

poly sab resistance

SAB layer is used to reduce the resistance of the resistors..ie. to achieve medium resistance / low resistance.
 

sab layer resistor

Salicide block is used to BLOCK salicaide from resistors, Salicide is a layer covering the whole die to DECREASE the RC over a poly gate.. Blocking the salicide INCREASES the sheet resistance of the poly thus increasing the value of the resistance. This INCREASE in resistance will save space. Please see attached power point slide.
