What is a digital amplifier and where is it used?

Digital amplifiers may refer to many different modes of amplification but generally refer to amplification by switching on and off a power source. PWM amplification is a good example.

All switching supplies are digital amplifiers.

Search for H amplifiers, pulse width modulation (PWM), switching power supplies (SMPC), DC to DC converters, bang bang controllers etc. for greater details about various kinds of digital amplifiers.
