if you know the AT command sets you can make good use of it...
I transfred files between two computers using modems without the internet. This shall remove the middle layer called TCP which gurantees error free data delivery.
To connect to a computer type ATD phonenumber
if you trype ATDT phonenumber the dialing shall be tone.
When the receiving computer running hyperterminal receives a ring the word RING appears on the HyperTerminal window.
Type ATA.
The connection is established.
Now send files and accept files.
AT stands for ATtention.
ATD - AT Dail
ATDT -ATD Tone
ATA - AT Answer.
Try quering your modem in the modem properties dialog box in the control Panels.
WIN2000:
Control Panels > Phone and Modem Options > Modem Tab > Select your Modem and click the Properties Button > In the diagonostic Tab, Click the query Modem Button.
Disconnect from the internet before doing so.
This shall give you some idea about a few more AT commands.
