I was asked about the tracks and how to generate them. So I did a quick search online.
Now my basic understanding is that, tracks are not any physical wires or cells. They are paths in which the routing tool can put wires.
I am not sure exactly when tracks are generated. My guess is:
(1) Standard cells are first put in a line (can I call it a Row?), which is called placement.
(2) Then before routing, we generate tracks.
But someone told me that I was wrong: he said tracks were generated before placement. And there should be no spacing between cells.
Now I guess maybe I was not using the correct terminologies when talking with people, because i am not very familiar with physical design. I will really appreciate it if anyone can explain the relationships between "Row", "Channel", "tracks" and "Placement".
