I need to select my research topic this semester.

Power dissipation issue in high density ICs...
this will be really HOT...
 

Maybe active noise cancelation is a good topic or digital imaging processing.
 

in signal processing you can go for

I am deciding between Low power design or Multicore processor architectures.
 

Both the topics are equally good and has scope. Personally i suggest multicore architectures..
