CAN vs Ethernet
For starters:
CAN
- max speed 1Mbit/sec
- All messages get broadcasted and there can be many recipients
- Max length at full speed 30-40 Meters
- non-destructive arbitration, even at high load, the highest priority still gets transmitted.
Ethernet
- max speed 10/100/1000 Mbit/sec
- source and destination for a message, not broadcast
- Ethernet can go very long distance
- arbitration is destructive, if network has a high load, it is possible to stall the whole thing.
