In very simple terms embedded system means a combination of hardware and software made for some perticuler purpose. For example washing machine controller, microwave, temperature controllers etc.
An embeddes system is an application that uses at least one programmable computer (typically in the form of a microcontroller , microprocessor or DSP) and used in systems which end-users are not aware that this is a computer system
