Hello,
Do you have literature explaining the dangers of having 10uF, X5R, 1206, 50V capacitors on a 52V rail? They have around 300mA of ripple current in them each. Is it acceptable to do this?

Hi,

I'd avoid this. The 52 power rail may have additional tolerance and voltage spikes. This is out of specification and only you are responsible for fails.

I recommend to use at least one range higher voltage than the specified one.
If you have 52V power rail, then there may be capacitors with 50, 63 and 100V.
50V is out of specification, 63V is the first within specification. I'd use the 100V one if possible.

capacitance varies with voltage. a 10uF, 50V capacitor is not having 10uF of capacitnace at 50V...Check the characterstics from Datasheet.
10uF capacitor can easily handle 300mA ripple current with very less internal temperature rise because of it's lower ESR.
But, it is not recommended to use Lower voltage caps on higher voltage rails. If any failure comes it's very difficult to find out also.
