Vector quadratic equation

I have an equation.

y = x^T*R*x

where x is and Nx1` vector and R is an NxN matrix. Can I solve for x in term of y???
 

I think the answer is no, because you have only one equation to solve N unknowns, and therefore you will have infinite solutions.

the dimensions of y are:
(1xN) (NxN) (Nx1) = (1xN) (Nx1)=(1x1) or a single value.
As x is a Nx1 vector, it is incompatible with y, therefore there cannot be a solution.
