Hi,

I used the 74VHC08 as level translators from 5V to 3.3V signals for a sdcard. But as the IC has become obsolete I am planning to use a 10K and 15K resistance divider to bring 5V outputs to 3.0V.

The DI signal from the sdcard is connected directly to any TTL buffer port of the PIC 18F4620.

Is it OK to use resistances as level translators ???

I have tried it out and is working very well and consistently...but I still need to be sure.

thanks

using resistor you can easily translate the voltage level. like in the attached document. use 2.2K , 3.3K resistor or equivalent. it will easily translate the voltage level from 5.0V to 3.0V. I tested this work fine. MMC.jpg

According to PIC datasheet, RC4 has a ST buffer with 0.7*VDD (3.5V) minimum high input level. Thus the MISO connection does not work reliably without a level converter.
