I was told that a Piezo may help me detect vibration of window glass. Can anyone suggest what general parameters of a piezo I should look for in buying some for this application ?

They sell piezo kits with a variety of sizes, you might want to try that; they're pretty inexpensive. Also, you might want to consider piezo film rather than those metal discs, as you could bond it directly to the glass.

A piezo wafer is used for detecting the vibration of a drum or a guitar. It can also detect the sound of glass breaking but cannot detect glass swaying back and forth.
The piezo wafer is found in a cheap piezo beeper.
