USB3 connection and D+/D- lines

I am using USB3 connection only. Do I need D+ and D- line(USB2 legacy line) be connected? If yes what is functionality of these lines in USB3 protocol.

Only due to compatibility reasons the USB3 connecotrs contents the old D+ and D- lines.
