I have a 5V latching relay, the type with a single coil that switches on when current flows in one directions and switches off when current flows the other way. I want to drive it from an MCU.
I came across what seems like a type of diode called TVS, and more specifically a model called P6KE6CA8 (https://www.futurlec.com/Components_Others/P6KE6CA8.shtml) which seems like I could use with my relay. The question is how do I use it? Simply wire in parallel with the coil?

Although I've not used it for this type of purpose, I think it would be fine. Just stick it across the coil as you say.
