Trl over solt calibration

With TRL calibration you can take the testbench much easier into account.
 

what is the difference between de-embedding and in-fixture calibration ?Usable bandwidth of a single line is 8:1,actually what it means ? suppose we want our calibration kit to work for the frequency range of 2-15GHz, how many lines we have to introduce ?? Plz guide.
 

De-embedding is a post processing of measurement data, that can happen, in modern VNAs, during the measurement. If you know the S-paramenter of the network that is in between the DUT and the calibration plane, you can remove it mathematically using deembedding.

TRL is a real calibration used when you have to measure non insertable devices (such as RFICs). You canuse a single line for 2-15GHz. There is a lot of info in Agilent web pages. An old but very useful application note is the one made for 8510 VNA, I've found a copy here: http://emlab.uiuc.edu/ece451/appnotes/TRL_2.pdf

If you're going to make your own TRL cal kit, I recommend to add some verification line, for example a 30 Ohm impedance line, to check if the cal kit works as expected.

Thanks for the application note.

Since THRU determines the reference plane, What is the role of LINE standards in TRL calibration ?and why in the application notes it is lambda/4 relative to THRU standard? ? Kindly guide me
