trace back length of viterbi decoder

have to use the viterbi decoder to decode radio mobile channel
! But my problem that i don't know how to choose the value of trace back length!!!

Pleaaaaaase help me to solve this problem!!! And this value depend on the type of channel ?

it is urgent please !!!
