Hi, I have toroidal transformer with two secondary windings. I want to connect these windings in parallel for greater power output. But I dont know if I do it before rectifying or after. Transformer will be used for driving stepper motors. This is the transformer that I will use.

Thanks.

You could parallel the two windings out of the transformer and use one bridge rectifier. Or you could run each winding in to a bridge rectifier and parallel the DC output of each bridge rectifier.

It depends on if you want to use one large bridge rectifier or two smaller ones.

If you are absolutely certain the two secondary voltages are identical, and you take care to wire them in phase, you can parallel them and use a single large rectifier. If there is a risk the voltages are different, even by a small amount, you will feed current from one winding into the other and produce a lot of heat, in that case it is safer to rectify them individually and parallel the DC outputs. The result should be the same whichever way you do it.

Brian.

Hi, thanks for your help. I will take some measurements and decide what to do.
