What is the difference between TO-220 and T0-247 packages of MOSFET?
In what context these two packages are used?

The size.

Larger contact area involves higher power handling, larger pin cross section higher current, larger pin distance higher dielectrical breakdown voltage.
 
ok..
but is insulation better in TO-247 compared to TO-220. as in when mounted on heat sink?
