Hi,

i'm having trouble with a very basic issue here. It concerns the TI TL-082 opamp: http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tl082.pdf

I'm using it as a the schmitt trigger in the schematic here: http://www.piclist.com/images/www/hobby_elec/e_ckt16.htm. But after the output "7" i put an additional resistor to limit zener current and two zener diodes in series to mass, to clip the output voltage.

The datasheet specifies the supply current with no load as typically 1.4mA. There's no short circuit output current specified. It can deliver more current to a finite load, right?

It specifies the maximum power dissipations, but i don't know how to use these figures...

Can someone give me a clue?

Thank you in advance...

You can use the graph with the max voltage vs load resistance but it starts from 100 Ohm

Using Ohms law you can calculate the max current but I don't know about the short circuit current

I have no excuse for missing this graph in the datasheet, but you have helped me out, a warm thank you for that!

The graphs in a datasheet are for a "typical" device that you cannot buy. Some are better but some are much worse. Maybe the factory had a bad yield and only the worst (but still guaranteed) ones are available.

Its written spec's guarantee only 10V into 2k ohms (with a 5V is loss) which is 5mA. It might give 10mA with a 12V loss.
The graph for a "typical" device shows 10V into 600 ohms which is 16.7mA.
