[51] Timer count based on external event

My MCU is C8051F120
I would like to make the timer count up/down when a signal on a port pin goes from high to low. I don't want to use Interrupt, just a regular port pin.
I am not talking about providing an external clock. Just triggering the timer using a falling edge signal.
Any example.
