I think these encoders have an advantage at installation. Are these at standart size and fit to motor shafts perfectly? What about costs according to the other types?
Pretty common shaft diameter of rotary encoders is 6mm, bu there are others with diameters of 10mm, .. but usually they come with flexible couplings and they can be re-machined at one end to suit the other side.

I think there is a misunderstood, sorry. I meant hollow shaft encoders. For example, the motor which i use for now has a shaft of ~30mm. I drilled the shaft center to place the encoder but there should be an easy way, i think
Not easy to find an encoder that fits the 30mm shaft. Probably you should consider to machine an adaptor with one end fit the 30mm and the other end fit the hollow shaft encoders.
hi
i think you must be careful when you drill the encoder because the most important thing that you may break the glass disc so the type with flexable shaft is nery good.
I didn't drill encoder. I drilled motor shaft and placed an iron rod matches to encoder shaft. And united them with the coupler comes with the encoder. But the rod is not perfect i think because there is some unbalance at the rotation of encoder.
