Take a potentiometer as a voltage divider?

I was given a pretty intuitive explanation of BJT
forward operation in my semiconductor courses
which was charge based. But evidently most people
prefer to think about voltage control. Not sure why;
thinking in terms of current generally works out
for me in analog IC design. Other than bandgaps,
where you do care about particular base-emitter
voltages, but even there it's voltage at ratioed
current densities and you take what you get.

There's a religiosity about it that disinclines me to
bother trying to explain it to people who don't
really need it.
 

Nothing like helping the original poster with an esoteric discussion of
semiconductor device physics. Minus the physics, minus the field theory.
