I was recently studying software radio and I had a question in my mind. When we upconvert a baseband signal using a software block, transmit it, then receive it and downconvert it, doesn't the question of synchronising ever arise? Don't the upconverter and downconverter need to be synchronised with each other? Because for example in AmplitudeModulation and demodulation using DSBSC, the transmitters and receivers have to be synchronised using costas receiver or squaring loop followed by PLL.

Sorry if the question is kind of obvious, I am starting to learn DSP.
Specifically I was using gnuradio and was surprised that the USRP transmitter and emitter somehow manage to synchronise the signals.

Hi,

There could be some codes in the preamble to synchronize them.
