Supplying power to load impedance load

Do bench power supplies shutoff current or blow a fuse if supplies total output power is exceeded or they supply current into a very low resistance load which would draw far more current than set via the knobs/buttons?

Any decent bench supply would have a current limit setting. If the load would draw more current, the output voltage is reduced to keep the current at the limit. It would also have a fuse on the AC side.
