suggest projects using spartan3 starter kit

kindly suggest list of projects that can implemented using spartan3 starter kit, involving processor. (note i donot have cpld board and edk along with it). basically i have designed a processor (search in beta designs hpc-16 on https://www.opencores.org) and want to test it, require your suggestion for suitable test harness (using spartan 3 starter kit) and also toy projects....

also how to design a lean and mean 2-pass assembler (i'm getting sick of compiler construction books...any short circuit route???)
