Spartan-3 Starter Kit: Bypassing SystemFlash

Is this possible, or do you always have to write your config to the system flash?

I would like to write it directly to the FPGA itself, for rapid prototyping purposes.

Don't you see the FPGA itself in the JTAG chain when you run IMPACT?

I've never used the kit, but the schematic shows the FPGA along with the configuration ROM on the same chain so there shouldn't be any problem configuring the FPGA directly... I think.

I use *.bit

When you use IMPACT you have two choice , you can configure the fpga (xc3s200) or the xilinx 2mbit flash (xcf0s).

Bypass the xilinx 2mbit (xcf02) then click right on xc3s200 and choose program.

The steps in details

1- Start => All Programs => Xilinx ISE 6 => Accessories => iMPACT

2- Choose "Boundary scan mode"

3- Choose "Automatically connect to cable and identify boundary scan chain"

4- click finish

5- click right on "cx3s200" icon and choose program

6- choose your configuration file (.bit)

7- uncheck "verify"

8- press ok

9- Look to the attachment also
