what kind of SMPS ? which topology ? what kind of driver ? what kind of load ? how much is the current ? you simply asked about something without any information . yes there are many solutions for many of the things but information must be delivered !

I am planning to do 5V ,2A o/p SMPS using viper 22A. i want to know whether the input range will support 40-300VAC. If it will not why? can you give the relation of working with this input range and the chip.I am eagerly waiting your reply
I don't think that it can accommodate such a wide range of input voltage while simultaneously providing the full power output you require.
That is my opinion based on flyback experience, other people may have other opinions, but they are only that, opinions.
To determine whether your proposal is feasible, you really have to calculate or simulate the operating points at voltage extremes and determine whether the device's maximum ratings are not exceeded.

It is possible but yo must consider various parameters while you're designing .

It is absolutely possible ! just you need to consider that for a flyback converter that maximum allowed duty cycle is about 49 or hardly 50 percent . so the out put winding must be able to deliver higher voltage so the feedback loop can compensate the variations of input as well . but indeed bulk capacitor of input must be with high capacity ( some of them in parallel together )

May i ask you what do you mean by that please ? are you meaning that for flyback converter duty cycle can reach nearby 90 percent too ?? if yes let me confess that i have never had a flyback converter with duty cycle variation like that ! according to the pressman's book if we increase the duty cycle more than 50 percent for a flyback it will be burned out ! am i right ? ( i saw it in practice too ) perhaps you are meaning something else and i couldn't get your accurate meaning ? if so may i ask you for more explanation please ?

Goldsmith; I agree that it is possible...but not for that much current and that wide voltage range, using a simple Viper 22A.

of course it is possible for that range of current what you need to take care of , is bulk capacitor / out put filter / out put voltage of your transformer and a powerful feedback loop ( i mean an accurate one ! )
that's all and of course absolutely possible .
